“Beverly Anderson is a Mill Valley photographer who finds pattern everywhere: California hills seen from the air, weathered barn doors, Italian boats and San Miguel doorways, made with composition, light and happy accidents.”

The Painting Process
Beverly's photographs begin with noticing. From a small plane she watches the land turn into pattern: the soft folds of the California hills, ploughed fields in Minnesota, the long shadows of Monument Valley, a line of windmills on a ridge. On the ground she looks just as closely, at the peeling paint of a barn door, a stack of boards, worn bricks in San Miguel, boats pulled up on the shore of an Italian lake. She works with what the light gives her. For Beverly the secret to a fine photo is composition, light and happy accidents, so she stays open to the moment when a shadow falls just right or a colour suddenly sings. Repetition and texture run through all five of her galleries, whether the subject is a valley seen from thousands of feet up or the petals of a white tulip. Her travels, from Mexico and Italy to Holland, Sweden and Zimbabwe, fill the Travel gallery, while Mill Valley, Sonoma and the Marin coast stay close to home. Every image is chosen for its structure first: lines, rhythm and colour that hold the eye on a wall.
